Building Safety, Support, and Connection

Jacqueline’s Story

Jacqueline first reached out to Pop In through our website, seeking support during an incredibly difficult time. At 35, and the mother of a young child, Jacqueline was facing an escalating situation of domestic and family violence—financial, emotional, and physical. With her family living overseas, the isolation was overwhelming.

She felt deeply alone and unsure of where to turn.

At a time when she was working with police and navigating the complexities of the Family Law Court, Jacqueline needed more than just information—she needed someone to walk alongside her. She and her child were in urgent need of safe housing, legal support, and culturally sensitive services that truly understood their experiences.

Pop In responded immediately.

Pop In provided Jacqueline with clear, compassionate information about domestic and family violence and the supports available to her. Our team supported her in creating a detailed timeline to strengthen her ADVO (Apprehended Domestic Violence Order) application and connected her with legal professionals who could assist with both her ADVO and Family Law matters.

Knowing how critical safe housing was, Jacqeline’s case worker referred Jacqueline to trusted housing providers. Understanding the importance of culturally appropriate care, Pop In connected her with support services attuned to her cultural background and emotional needs.

Jacqueline also received personalised case work support, including a safety plan designed to protect both her and her child.

Though her journey with Pop In has only just begun—spanning just two months—Jacqueline has already taken incredible steps forward.

With the right support at the right time, she’s moving toward a future that is safer, more stable, and filled with hope for both herself and her child.

Domestic violence is not just an individual crisis—it affects families, communities, and society as a whole.

The latest statistics from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare data release of March 2025, highlight the scale of this issue. Since the age of 15:

  • 1 in 6 women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence by a current or previous cohabiting partner.

  • 1 in 4 women have experienced emotional abuse by a current or previous cohabiting partner.

  • 1 in 6 women have experienced economic abuse by a current or previous cohabiting partner.

  • 1 in 5 women have experienced sexual violence.
